Real Bike
Posted On 02/11/08 @12:27:AM by TVoyager

Recently I received an IM from some one I didn't know and it simply said, "Why don't you get a real bike?"  Wow!  At first I was angered and thought this required an immediate reply, but good since prevailed and I did not.  Perhaps I left a comment on this persons page or image that they didn't appreciate and they were getting even with me, or maybe it was just good natured razzing.  It's hard to tell these things on the internet.  At any rate it was an IM so no one but me could have been offended and yet it got me to wondering.

What is a "real bike"?  Hmmm, that Victory Vision is cool, maybe it's a real bike.  Oh, and that Yamaha Raider is awesome, maybe it's a real bike.  My friends have all brands of bikes, Harley's, Honda's, Yamaha's, Suzuki's, Kawasaki's, and one even has a scooter, maybe I should ask them what a "real bike" is.  Do you think one of them could tell me?  I doubt it, or perhaps they would suggest the one they are riding is the "real bike".  Yeah, that's it.  The one you're riding is the "real bike".

The first thing any of us do when we get a motorcycle is customize and personalize to make it our "real bike".  So, friend, who ever you are, I'm riding a "real bike" and I'll bet you are too.  Have a good day.

I've had my first bike for about 15 months or so, (Yamaha 1100) and at first, when  people would ask me what I rode, I'd almost apologize because I 'only' rode a Yamaha. I've quickly realized that real bikes are like Preacher says- two wheels, brakes and gas, a seat and a way to steer- and real bikers realize that.

Now I'm proud of what I ride, because it's mine, and I'm making it more and more mine every time I add something shiny or leather to it, and every time I ride far enough to need gas.  I'll put mine up against any other bike- not that I think mine is better, but because I KNOW that mine is just as good- she gets me where I need to go, and we take care of each other.

thanks for the great post.

I'm glad to see so many agree that it's not what you ride, but rather, that you ride.  I'll say this though, never have I seen so much passion except maybe in politics.  No, I'm not going there (politics), oh the he_ _ I'm not.  Vote republican.

I love you guys.  Stay real and keep the shiny side up.

I would have to totally agree with you here, I peronally prefer a Harley, but over the Years have had all sorts of Bikes, some may never have heard of but I once had a 125cc Sears Motorcycle, and many different types of trail bikes, first road Bike was a 441 Victor BSA, also owned a couple of Honda's a 350, 4 cycliner,& a 750, 4 cyclinder, then as luck would have it was able to afford a 1972 Harley Sportster, which from most people I have spoke with is the reason they buy rice burners is because they can't afford a Harley, and now I have sense passed my 72 down to my son and I now own a 2005 Limited Edition Screamin Eagle Fat Boy, all I can say is that most once you go Harley there is no turning back, and I don't Judge people by what they ride, to each there own I say.
