Gregg Boyd accident
Posted On 04/24/08 @ 3:36:PM by TheHandMaiden
Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008 Gregg Boyd, 54, of Urbana, Ohio went down off of his green Heritage.  He had been enjoying the day with his American Thunder Brother Ziggy as they finished getting Ziggy's trike back on the road. Late in the afternoon Gregg and Ziggy were coming in on Ludlow North of  County Road 47 in West Liberty, Ohio. They had been heading toward the castles, according to Ziggy.  After navigated the hill  with a curve Ziggy checked his mirrors and Gregg was not there.  Within minutes Ziggy was able to get back to Gregg, but not before two good Samaritans, one a volunteer Fire Fighter, had stopped to administer aide. These guys called for the squads and MedFlight. “Within 15 to 20 minutes the parametics were there to get him,” Ziggy said.In “good” free to do as we please fashion (I write this being a Harely Davidson driver and rider who does not wear my helmet all of the time either), Greg was not wearing a helmet.  When asked if there were any other vehicles involved, if there was evidence of wildlife or livestock interference, etc…, “No, not that I could see at all,” Ziggy replied.Gregg is suffering from a bad head injury, at the very least.  Gregg was MedFlighted to Grant Medical Center, Columbus Ohio. We were able to contact his family. They have been to see him. His girlfriend, Kathy, is on her way in. I will be heading to the hospital within hours with her. As of 8:30 A.M. the next morning/this morning, April 24th, he was still unresponsive. With the many family and friends Gregg Boyd has across the United States I have been asked to provide an information gathering zone. I will be continuing to update my blog with progress reports on Gregg Boyd throughout the days and months (we pray) to come.If anyone wants to see a picture of him (with Kathy), yah know… put a face to a name, etc. http://www.mymotorcyclemonster.com/user/gallery/view/name_glivingston_DOC_/id_3071/title_greg2-and-kathy/Or  to see a shot of the two Greg bookend and us Kathleens -- http://www.mymotorcyclemonster.com/user/gallery/view/name_glivingston_DOC_/id_3068/title_the-three-of-us/ Thank you for all of your prayers. Feel free to add comments, thoughts, prayers, etc. I will forward them to Gregg Boyd and his family.   Thanks again,The Hand MaidenTheHandMaiden_Kathleen@hotmail.com

May 5th, 2008

Gregg’s condition is changing daily, babysteps, and that is good.

He did, as many patients do, got a bit of pneumonia so the move to the step-down hospital (out of a Trauma Hospital) will be delayed a bit. But the antibiotics have brought his temp. down.

Saturday his son, Brandon, believes he saw his father move his toes on one foot slightly, this would be the first time for this. And his daughter, Brittany, prays she was not imagining that her father was able to twitch his fingers while she was holding his hand and asking him to move his fingers.

His sister Susie held the phone up to Gregg’s ear… Kathy, his girlfriend, spoke to him and he moved his jaw… in response to trying to answer back.

His Glascow coma scale is now up to a 5. It had been a 4 ½. Each improvement is seen as just that… an improvement no matter how small it may seem it is an improvement of condition.

Monday, today, or Tuesday  is the target for  the move to the step-down hospital.

And although Gregg could not go on our first Biker Sunday… many prayers were said for his recovery and the strength of his family and friends.

Today is May 2nd.
Gregg is making some improvements. He is periodically opening his eyes. Gregg’s condition has stabilized enough that he will be moving to a “Step Down” hospital in Columbus, Ohio, which is to say he will be able to move out of the Trauma hospital. That is a positive thing.
As soon as I get the new location I will let yah’ll know. The Hand Maiden -- Kathleen

Gregg spent the day breathing on his own.
He has been moved to a "step-down" room. Which is to say he is not in ICU any longer.
His mother, Nancy, belives he attempted to answer her questions today (Tuesday) as she saw his jaw move in response to her questions, as if he was trying to answer her.
This is good. That means a bit more Voulentary movements.

Sunday, April 27, 2008 Gregg’s stats were better. His respirator was down from 16 assisted breaths per minute to 12, which means he is needing less assistance and is doing more breathing on his own and his blood pressure was down from 140s over the low 100 to 128 or 80-something. During our visit he was stimulated and his blood pressure went up to 140 but then came back down to the 128. This is a set of good, positive sigs.

We witnessed a few positive changes in Gregg this morning. He was having some small reactions to people. He is on less sedation.

This afternoon he was taken in for his tracheotomy and his stomach tube.

Gregg Opened His Eyes late this afternoon. The reason this is such good news is – because opening your eyes is a Voluntary brain function, not involuntary.

He is not out of the woods yet, so let’s keep up the prayers and the visits. (visitation hours already posted)
