Good News all around...
Posted On 02/03/08 @10:30:PM

First things first- we just found out last week that we've got a new family member coming in the fall - probably September; grandbaby #9 will arrive. We're both very excited - I love being 'Granny' and Randy loves being Papa. Got to get shopping to round out my granny necklace - one little birthstone baby for each grandchild. Can you see the smile on my face? "Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, Happy is the man whose quiver is full of them." Psalm 127, 3,5

Second- Randy finally got the new fender on his bike- last December we were loading his bike on a trailer after the local Christmas parade - emergency blinkers on - some guy came flying around the curve and slammed into the trailer. Ruined the front of the guy's car, bent the trailer rail, broke the back fender and lights on the bike. We found a guy who trikes out bikes - he had a fender that matched Randy's, and after we got it back from the paint shop, we (mostly Randy but I handed him tools - LOL) installed everything and put it on yesterday. We actually got to ride together for the afternoon - first time in several weeks. Of course, the guy who hit us showed an invalid insurance card, so we were out a chunk, but at least no one was hurt.

It was amazing, afterwards, to see how things ended up - my son was standing on the trailer, and two of our friends were kneeling at the front of the trailer, fastening the tie downs. The bike was only held up by it's kickstand, and even though the whole thing was shoved forward about 8-10 inches (Suburban and all!) and the bike moved forward several inches on the trailer, it didn't fall over. My son bailed off into the grass, the guys jumped off to each side (one into the middle lane of the road), but no one was hurt, not even a scratch. Farther on into town, they were doing a fireworks show, and people were probably all in the street- if the guy hadn't hit us, he might have driven on into town and run over someone.

Since 9-11 I've tried to remember that everything happens for a reason- God keeps us from doing things that may hurt us; so I figure that the bike's back fender was a very good trade for someone's life, possibly some little kid's.

"and we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purposes." Romans 8:28

Have a good week! Ride safe!

Bronner Burgess
Posted On 01/24/08 @ 4:41:PM

I've been a big fan of Rick and Bubba for the last several years - I've always enjoyed their off-beat humor, and the way they talk about their family means a lot to me.

Last Saturday night, Rick's youngest son Bronner, who was two years old, drowned in their family's pool.

Bronner's memorial service was on Tuesday; and Rick gave one of the most powerful testimonies I have ever heard. It was recorded and has been posted on YouTube - I would encourage anyone to see this video - if you're a Christian, it will strengthen your faith in the God we serve. If you're not a Christian, it may explain a little about why we are who we are.

I'm not sure I would be strong enough to do what Rick did; but I hope if I'm ever in those shoes, I allow God to lift me up as He lifted Rick, Sherry and the rest of their family.

Here is a link to the first part of Rick's testimony -  - you can see the other two parts from that page.
