Many of you, within our community, have been keeping one of our brothers -- Gregg Boyd, of Urbana, Ohio -- in your prayers over the months. His accident, April 23rd, 2008, has left him in hospital since that day. But I cannot hold back the wonderful e-mail I just go from his girlfriend -- Kathy. Please read it and rejoice with us.
You can cheer for MI or OSU....I'm cheering for Botox, lol. -- note here... Kathy is a big Mich. fan -- :) Hello! Headed back to Ohio on Monday but wanted to send a short note with an update. Last few days for Gregg have been really good ones. He went to the Davis clinic at OSU on Wednesday for his appt. with the neruologist. The appt. was delayed as OSU was having a pep rally before today's big game with Michigan. Geez, never realized what a celebration that was down there. Gregg's doc took him down and wheeled him to the front row so he could see/hear the OSU band, drum major, etc. and he really enjoyed it. He always bragged up that band :). Several of the therapists who worked with him at Dodd Hall recognized him and visited with him awhile - and he remembered them. He had a huge smile on his face through the whole thing. After the pep rally and a luncheon he was returned to the clinic where he received 5 botox injections - 3 in his right hamstring, 1 in his right calf and 1 in his right bicep. His hamstring immediately released with the injections - this usually takes up to a week to start working. Doc explained to his mom and sister that his leg muscles were in a constant 'cramp'. Hmmmm, no wonder he sometimes resisted getting up to walk. He must have awakened to that pain and probably dealt with it better than I would have. He ended Wednesday by telling his speech therapist out loud, "You are so funny". Today the business manager at Heart Land, Gregg's current loaction, told him she was headed to Jamaica on Wednesday and said his eyes lit up big time. He nodded when she asked him if he had ever been there. The Rock House at Negril was a favorite place of his. We had plans to visit there this past August for both of our birthdays - next year. Long term memory in this case is there seems to be a positive. During the past few days he has walked much easier, right heel down and an easier gait, so our fingers are crossed. He's even been standing up for transferring to the bed, w/chair, etc. This will come in handy as he will be at home for Thanksgiving Day. His mom and dad and I will have dinner with him, give him some resting time and then open the house for a couple of hours (4-6?) for friends, neighbors and family to visit with him. We have been cautioned not to let him get over tired or overwhelmed so will need to keep on eye on that but he is getting excited about going home. We are hoping that 'home' will be a big motivation factor for him with all the therapy he has to work through yet. We have been told that Gregg is 75-80% 'back'. A long ride from the first prognosis 7 seven months ago tomorrow, but hell, I love it when docs are wrong! lol. Keep him in your thoughts and prayers....I will update soon. Enjoy your holiday. Kathy
As always thanks yous go out to all of our brother and sisters who have and will keep one of our own in their prayers.

Hi all ~~ It's been a long haul and with my husband DOC coming back from Germany we've been able to get in to see and visit Gregg Boyd once a week. I am happy to be able to announce that Gregg IS making progress. He chose to wake up for us and our visit yesterday. He made Direct eye contact with Doc and then with me. He shook Doc's hand before we left. His grip is getting stronger. Kathy, his girlfriend, shared that they Physical Therapist is having Gregg sit up in a chair, beside the bed. Gregg is regaining his muscle strengths proven by him being able to hold up his own head again. There is, without a doubt, “someone we all know” there behind the lightly confused eyes. The visits are working. The Prayers are working. And the will to live IS there. The Hand Maiden -- Kathleen

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008 Gregg Boyd, 54, of Urbana, Ohio went down off of his green Heritage. He had been enjoying the day with his American Thunder Brother Ziggy as they finished getting Ziggy's trike back on the road. Late in the afternoon Gregg and Ziggy were coming in on Ludlow North of County Road 47 in West Liberty, Ohio. They had been heading toward the castles, according to Ziggy. After navigated the hill with a curve Ziggy checked his mirrors and Gregg was not there. Within minutes Ziggy was able to get back to Gregg, but not before two good Samaritans, one a volunteer Fire Fighter, had stopped to administer aide. These guys called for the squads and MedFlight. “Within 15 to 20 minutes the parametics were there to get him,” Ziggy said.In “good” free to do as we please fashion (I write this being a Harely Davidson driver and rider who does not wear my helmet all of the time either), Greg was not wearing a helmet. When asked if there were any other vehicles involved, if there was evidence of wildlife or livestock interference, etc…, “No, not that I could see at all,” Ziggy replied.Gregg is suffering from a bad head injury, at the very least. Gregg was MedFlighted to Grant Medical Center, Columbus Ohio. We were able to contact his family. They have been to see him. His girlfriend, Kathy, is on her way in. I will be heading to the hospital within hours with her. As of 8:30 A.M. the next morning/this morning, April 24th, he was still unresponsive. With the many family and friends Gregg Boyd has across the United States I have been asked to provide an information gathering zone. I will be continuing to update my blog with progress reports on Gregg Boyd throughout the days and months (we pray) to come.If anyone wants to see a picture of him (with Kathy), yah know… put a face to a name, etc. http://www.mymotorcyclemonster.com/user/gallery/view/name_glivingston_DOC_/id_3071/title_greg2-and-kathy/Or to see a shot of the two Greg bookend and us Kathleens -- http://www.mymotorcyclemonster.com/user/gallery/view/name_glivingston_DOC_/id_3068/title_the-three-of-us/ Thank you for all of your prayers. Feel free to add comments, thoughts, prayers, etc. I will forward them to Gregg Boyd and his family. Thanks again,The Hand MaidenTheHandMaiden_Kathleen@hotmail.com

American Pride is alive and well in little Urbana, Ohio. Last night a group of friends got together at a local watering hole to – spend some time with my husband before he left the country, for Germany, for seven weeks. We chose the spot as one of my co-worker’s band was playing locally and it was time to “come see the guy’s band.” A couple folks knew that my husband, Doc, is leaving for Germany and they asked me to mention it to the band so they could play a song just for us and all. Our friends love Doc, too, and are not looking forward to him missing the beginning of the riding season because he’ll be out of the country. (Even though they are a bit jealous he will be able to go to a ralley in Germany.) The co-worker in the band and many other folks assumed my ex-Sgt was heading to a US base in Germany. (He is actually going there for work reasons, non- military. He is in research and development of Hondas’ .) And although the band guy did not say he was in the military it all came out that way, respectful and full of pride. None-the-less there were countless folks who came up to him last night shook his hand and thanked him for going, wished him well, etc. Guess the boys and girls “other there” ARE on the minds of many people, even in small towns. Admittedly, it made Doc a bit uncomfortable, as his pride for “his boys” who are “over there” has him every mindful that he is not over there with them and they are. That they are putting their lives on the line and, in his own eyes, he should have re-enlisted, again, to do his part even more. Doc graciously shook their hands, accepted the heartfelt pats on the back, etc. I tried to quell Doc's concerns by letting him know that he was accepting the pats on the backs FOR the Boys and Gals over there, no matter where "there" is . It seems that there are many of us who DO have the service men and women on our minds; it seems many of us are truly grateful for other people’s efforts and sacrifices; it seems that many people don’t want to let an opportunity go by where they might be able to say “thanks”, even if they were off mark, because they really do feel what they feel. Were they really off mark? Didn’t Doc’s ability to accept their heartfelt comments serve a purpose? Wasn’t Doc put in that watering hole, on that one night so others could express their universal love for others? Doc was able to help others who believe in the U.S. and those who are putting their lives on the line to keep freedom in our grasps. Doc wears his Airborne designed tattoo with pride and I pray he understands folks do appreciate the United State’s Armed Forces’ efforts, sacrifices and all that that entails, because I saw it firsthand last night. God Bless all who have served, are serving and will be serving. After all, it really does mean more than words can say.
